Online Tools That Help You Align Lessons to Common Core
Teaching Objects is an online lesson planner that enables you to pull materials from your Google Drive and YouTube accounts into your lesson plans. As you write your lesson plans and organize your materials in your Teaching Objects account you can search for an identify the Common Core standards that align to each of your lesson plans. (To use Teaching Objects you do have to have a Google Account).
Alchemy SmartBinder is a free service for creating, organizing, and sharing lessons. With an Alchemy SmartBinder account teachers can create lessons that include text, images, videos, audio files, and web links. Each lesson can be aligned to Common Standards and or any other standards system that you use. Each lesson can be shared with students. All lessons are organized in courses in your Alchemy SmartBinder.
Common Curriculum is an online lesson planning resource that aims to help you align your lessons to Common Core standards. In Common Curriculum you can enter your courses and write your lesson plans. After you enter a lesson plan into your Common Curriculum planner you can click "search for standard" to have Common Curriculum search for Common Core standards that might match your lesson plan. The more text that you include in your lesson plan the more likely Common Curriculum is to find Common Core standards that match your lesson plans. See how it works in the video.
OpenEd is a site/catalog for finding educational resources such as educational games, links, and videos. What makes OpenEd so great is that a user can search for resources by Common Standard or by keyword. Also, each resource is rated on a 5 star scale.
Gooru - Go here for videos, sites, interactives, questions, slides, textbooks, handouts, lessons, and exams. Filter by CCSS, subject, and grade.
Develop a Core of Math Problems Opus is a free math problem bank that aims to help middle school mathematics teachers build math assignments aligned to the Common Core standards. To find problems on Opus, search by entering a topic and selecting a grade. You can also find problems by clicking the “browse the Core directly” link on the Opus home page. Either way, when you find a problem, you can save it to your free Opus account where you can then generate a Word doc or Google Document of all of your saved problems. ReadWorks is a free service that has cataloged hundreds of lesson plans and more than one thousand non-fiction reading passages aligned to Common Core standards. With a free ReadWorks account you can search for lessons and reading passages by grade and skill. Just in time for the Common Core emphasis on nonfiction reading, NEWSELA provides daily current events articles written specifically for K–12 students. Each day the site adds three new articles to the collection. Categories include War & Peace, Science, Kids, Money, Law, Health and Arts. For every article, there are versions written at different Lexile levels. With just a few clicks, a teacher can provide the same story leveled for students of differing reading ability.
Rubrics for assessing critical thinking skills, collaboration, presentation, and creativity and innovation in project based learning assignments. The rubrics are available with or without Common Core alignment. You can download the rubrics as PDFs or Word documents.
OpenEd is a site that claims to be the world's largest educational resource catalog. On OpenEd you can search for videos, games, and other educational materials. Your searches can be conducted according to content area, grade level, Common Core standard, or a combination of those factors. You can also search according to keyword although when I tried the keyword search option it didn't work well. As a registered OpenEd user (registration is free and takes less than thirty seconds to complete) you can create courses and playlists of videos and other materials that you find in the OpenEd directory. You can align your courses and playlists to standards. If you choose to align your course to a standard, OpenEd will suggest materials to you.
MasteryConnect is a service that offers a few products. First, they offer a system for tracking your students' mastery of Common Core standards. Second, they provide a community of educators who are connecting and sharing lesson ideas. And third, MasteryConnect now offers a curriculum mapping tool that allows you to easily connect your current lessons and curriculum to Common Core and or state standards. - OpenEd's assessment creation tool is designed to help teachers create Common Core-aligned assessments. To get started you have to create an accountant on OpenEd.io. Click the "assessments" tab then the "create" button to start building your standards-aligned resources. After titling your assessment you can choose the standards that your assessment will address. You can choose as many standards as you like. With your standards identified you can move on to adding questions to your assessment. Assessment questions can be created from scratch you can choose some of the questions that OpenEd recommends based on your standards choices. You can also search for questions on OpenEd and add them to your assessments.
The best feature of the OpenEd assessment creation tool is the option to associate images and videos with specific questions. This option not only allows you to use media in your questions, but it also allows your students to see suggested review resources when they don't reach a standard on your assessment.
